This particular outfit differs from what I normally wear. As my first year of college progressed, I drifted away from my usual outfits that always consisted of some major black piece. I started to wear more colors and became more comfortable in my own body. The cute denim top, silk scarf, and striped olive pants scream "summer!" All the pieces were thrifted, proving the objective truth that thrift stores have the upper hand when it comes to shopping. The denim micro purse was something that was, believe it or not, gifted to me when I was six. Why do six year olds need purses? I kept that purse hidden away in the back of my closet until recently, and realized it flows perfectly with the micro purse trend of late. We love hoarding for the sake of fashion.
Nothing says big business like pin stripe pants and a white button up. The leather jacket and beanie add the perfect amount of causal to this rather formal outfit. The bright burnt orange is just the pop of color a black and white outfit needs. I'm not one for button ups, however the colorful buttons added a touch of playfulness to my outfit, reassuring people that I don't actually work in financial district; I'm a poser. The now popular trend of layering short necklaces together was atypical to my lifestyle. After stalking skater boys in bands on instagram, I decided that layering necklaces automatically made anyone look cooler than they actually are. My makeshift layering was a success, or at least I would like to believe so. A day in sf always calls for a confusing mix of styles, but I still look like I'm from Sac town.
I really do not understand the concept of "too much denim". If you live in California, denim is the uniform. A simple denim look can speak volumes with the right accessories and attitude. Yellow tinted glasses add the perfect contrast to the shades of blue within any denim outfit. The tan mesh tee is the perfect summer layer since it is breathable and simple. However, the best part of the outfit is the hand painted bad gal icon, Rihanna. Riri has the sass and style that any individual could only hope for. She exudes a certain confidence that today's society does not possess so much. As she guides me into solidifying my sense of style, I become more fearless in more aspects of my life. If I were fifteen and told wear a full denim outfit, I would be completely unwilling. After gaining self confidence, and not giving a hoot about what anyone else has to say, I can say that blue just happens to be my color.
