One of my close friends, and the gal that inspired me to dress however I desire, styles herself like an absolute diva everyday. After a heart to heart one day, the question came up of "how does she always seem so confident and okay?". So I went for it and asked miss Cristen Nicorici how clothes empowered her as a woman and just as an individual. She eloquently responded with, "Clothes are a representation of you, they are something that shows not only what you see externally, but also feel internally. One should wear whatever their heart desires and feel comfortable in it. I think it's important to get up, get dressed, and never give up on each day. Fashion is more than just clothing, it symbolizes empowerment. If I'm confident in what I'm wearing at the start of the day I know I can get through anything. For example these killer gloss boots that I pair up with outfits through every season make me feel like a woman on top. I get some of my ideas and inspirations from Rihanna whether it's her overall style or certain pieces, she's one to watch for the new 'it' looks. With the confidence and power I feel from my outfits, I don't listen to what anyone has to say about me. I am who I am, and I love who I am."
It's understandable if someone thinks clothes are just accessories to make someone look good. On the flip side, a simple swipe of some mascara can give someone the power they need to make it through the day. At such an age where everything is a shit show, the only stability in our lives can be our style and how we dress. If clothes are the only stable thing you have in your life, you can always fake it 'till you make it.
