My spiritual guru since I was 15 just so happen to wear the quirkiest outfits for as long as I can remember. Ashley Smith is about 3 different people molded into one blond teenage girl. I always tease her by saying that I influenced her style just because it irks her, however we have somewhat different ideas of cute looks. Being a risk taker, Ashley wears certain outfits that most people would never consider. Strolling around in R district, I was compelled to ask if her boys' tee and shiny vans were how she expressed herself comfortably. She explained, "I see style as a sort of nonverbal way to showcase certain aspects of yourself to others. Personally, I like to use fashion to highlight my quirks, interests, and sense of humor; I might wear an eclectic blend of prints because I want to feel like a character from 'Absolutely Fabulous' or sport some silver nail polish to pay homage to Andy Warhol."
"I'm unapologetically saying, 'This is who I am, these are the things that have influenced me, and I'm not afraid to show it.' This outfit is eccentric and all over the place, which I think describes me well. The clash of prints is my favorite part. I think it works well in this outfit because the colors are subdued and only vary slightly in shade. So many people shy away from mixing patterns, which I think is why I love doing it so much- it feels rebellious. I also felt like a rebel because I was wearing my sister's shirt without her permission."
Like Hannah, Ashley has the same views on fashion and style. Clothes and clashes of pattern bring out the best of someone. The important matter is that, while a distressed jean loving gal might not like paisley skirts, it shouldn't affect the girl that dreams on paisley clouds. None of Ashley's garments qualify for the top ten hit list of the summer, however it's a whole big thing nowadays to look quirky, artsy, and make it seem like you just threw something on. On the flip side, I can tell Ash is genuine about her style. It would only make sense to pose her in an art studio.
